What is the function of a smoke barrier wall?

As a fire protection product, the main function of smoke barrier is to isolate smoke, insulate and prevent fire. So, how does it work when a fire strikes?

Smoke barriers are usually divided into fixed and movable types. The movable smoke barrier is equipped with a driving device and controller. After sending a fire signal or directly receiving a "smoke detection" signal from the fire control center, the smoke barrier placed above the ceiling quickly drops to the set height, forming a smoke zone separation, isolating smoke, and delaying the spread of fire.

Assembly, splicing, or connection should be firm and meet design requirements, without displacement or looseness. The surface of the smoke prevention part of the smoke barrier wall shall not have defects such as cracks, pits, missing corners, holes, obvious bumps, burrs, etc. The anti rust coating or coating of metal materials should be uniform. The smoking height of the smoke barrier wall should meet the design requirements, with a minimum value of 500mm and a maximum value not exceeding the published value of the product model applied for testing by the enterprise. The width of a single section of a rigid smoke barrier should not exceed 2000 mm, made of non combustible inorganic composite panels, metal panels, fire-resistant glass and other materials; the width of a single section of a flexible smoke barrier such as metal panels and inorganic fiber fabrics should not exceed 40000 mm. The smoke barrier controller should be used together with a movable smoke barrier driving device to control the smoke barrier. The controller should be able to receive alarm signals from smoke detectors, emit sound and light indication signals, and control the smoke barrier to descend to the smoke working position.

The gap between the smoke barrier wall and the building structure (column or wall) shall not exceed 60mm, and the continuous smoke barrier wall is composed of two or more smoke barriers. There should be no gap between the two pieces, and the overlap width should not be less than 100mm. The vertical surface should withstand (5) ± 1) m/s under wind speed, and its vertical deviation angle should not exceed 15 °.
